Former Cubs executive Eldred ‘Salty’ Saltwell dies at age 96

Eldred “Salty” Saltwell, who served in several roles for the Cubs over a 30-year career, including general manger in 1976, died Sunday at age 96, the team announced.

Saltwell began with the club in 1958 and in addition to his year as GM, worked as concession manager, traveling secretary, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer, secretary, vice president and consultant.

Overall, he spent more than 40 years in professional baseball.
