MESA, Ariz. – David Bote has been a contributor off the bench for the Cubs since making his debut in 2018. This spring, Bote is vying for the Cubs’ second-base job with Nico Hoerner.
Both Bote and Hoerner are likely to play a big role for the Cubs and each brings their own unique strengths to the competition. Hoerner showed he was an elite defender during his first season, while Bote has been a key offensive contributor during his three years with the Cubs.
“Who doesn’t love a good competition?,” Bote said. “That’s just what we’re here for.
