Daniel Palencia Settling into Closer Role

Ryan Pressly lost his job as the Cubs’ closer in early May, with Porter Hodge taking over at the end of games for Craig Counsell. Hodge fell victim to an oblique injury, something that is becoming way too common for the Cubs.

With Hodge down, Counsell turned to Daniel Palencia when a save opportunity arose in Miami. Palencia got two outs to begin the frame, then proceeded to blow the game by allowing three straight Marlins batters to reach. After his rough closing debut, Palencia has worked three scoreless outings, collecting the save in each of them.
