Curse busted: Cubs win first pennant since 1945

WORLDSERIESVILLE — This Cubs team was too good for curses. Too damn talented to worry about jinxes, hoaxes, day games, brick walls, black cats, goats, white noise, the wind snapping in hard off Lake Michigan and the deep, well-worn insecurities of an entire city and a diaspora.

Lovable losers? Nah, this Cubs team is full of greedy winners and selfless teammates, cold-hearted killers and sleight-of-hand magicians.

This is the team Cubs fans have been waiting for their whole lives.

The Cubs advanced to their first World Series since 1945 with a 5-0 win over Clayton Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday night at Wrigley Field.
