Cubs: Summing up Day 3 of the MLB Draft

After taking a slew of collegiate players (9 of 12 picks) in the first 10 rounds, the Cubs continued that trend on the third and final day of the MLB Draft Wednesday.

The Cubs kicked things off on Day 3 by taking Riley Thompson with the 338th overall pick. Thompson is a right-handed pitcher from Louisville whose collegiate numbers were not very good.

The 6-foot-3 righty made 10 appearances and 7 starts for Louisville in 2018, pitching to a 7.26 ERA and 1.77 WHIP while striking out 32 batters in 31 innings.

That being said, Thompson can dial his fastball up to triple digits and is coming off Tommy John surgery (2016) and shoulder issues, so the Cubs must like his upside and believe he'll have better results when healthy.
