CHICAGO -- It takes a whole sleuth of Chicago Cubs to sweep a doubleheader, or at least it did on Tuesday with a full moon glowing over Wrigley Field.
With 21 players contributing over two games -- everyone but the unavailable starting pitchers and reliever Carl Edwards Jr. -- the Cubs polished off the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-1, in the nightcap of Tuesday's twinbill. Jason Hammel (13-5) remained one of the hottest pitchers in baseball, throwing seven shutout innings to extend his streak to 24 consecutive scoreless frames.
"Looking at it, I was trying to count the number of guys from the first game to the second game," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said.
