Cubs Sign Former Indians Closer Cody Allen to Minors Deal

In need of all the help they can get in the bullpen, the Cubs have signed 31-year-old righty Cody Allen to a minor league deal. That name should sound familiar to Cubs fans because Allen was the Indians’ closer for several years and pitched in the 2016 World Series. Unlike former and possibly future teammate Jason Kipnis, however, he does not hail from Northbrook.

Cubs have signed Cody Allen to a minor league deal and he will report to South Bend.

Allen has 153 career saves and was the closer for the Indians in that 2016 season.
