Cubs Select Trevor Megill from Alternate Site, Place Rowan Wick on 60-Day IL

Monday morning brought news that Jason Adam had been optioned to the alternate site following a disastrous outing that wrecked what had otherwise been a decent showing so far. That meant calling someone up to take his place, but word on that didn’t come out for quite a while after Adam’s transaction. Rather than bringing Pedro Strop or Justin Steel back up, the Cubs actually opted for righty Trevor Megill.

Because Megill wasn’t on the 40-man roster, a spot had to be cleared by transitioning Rowan Wick to the 60-day IL. It’s a little surprising that the Cubs didn’t do that prior to the start of the season, though we can assume they were still holding out hope that the intercostal injury that cost him the end of last season would have run its course by now.
