The Chicago Cubs today selected infielder Luis Vázquez from Triple-A Iowa.
Vázquez, 24, hit .271 (123-for-454) with 24 doubles, 20 home runs, 80 RBI and 54 walks to contribute to an .817 OPS in 124 games between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa. A right-handed hitter, he opened the season with the Smokies and was named Southern League Player of the Week for April 17-23. He hit .285 (66-for-232) with 13 doubles, 11 home runs, 40 RBI and an .823 OPS prior to his promotion to Iowa June 27. Vazquez last season played 114 games at shortstop with a .
