Cubs select 27 pitchers in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft

Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft concluded Saturday with rounds 11-40. And the Cubs spent a majority of the third day of the draft picking college pitchers.

The Cubs had a total of 38 picks in this year’s draft. Jason McLeod said the Cubs would focus on adding as much pitching to the organization as possible, and that’s exactly what the team did. The Cubs drafted 27 pitchers and used 13 of the first 14 picks on pitchers.

The Cubs selected 20 college pitchers and seven high schoolers, five in rounds 33-40.
