TORONTO — The Cubs reinstated right-hander Javier Assad and catcher Miguel Amaya from the 60-day IL before their series opener against the Blue Jays on Tuesday. Assad was expected to start Tuesday’s game, instead of right-hander Ben Brown, who was originally listed as the probable starter.

Tuesday would be Assad’s season debut, after being sidelined since the start of spring training with a strained left oblique, which he re-injured in a rehab start in April.

Amaya also strained his left oblique, while throwing down to second base in a late-May game against the Reds.
