With just two more series at home left after they finish the weekend in Cincinnati, the Cubs need to see what their pitching staff is going to look like for the postseason. It looked for a while as though Porter Hodge would be in the mix after he gave up just one earned run with 11 strikeouts and three walks over eight appearances. But two of those walks came in one outing, then he walked another and gave up two tanks in Cincinnati on Friday night.
Between that and his overall struggles with health and consistency this season, the Cubs decided to option Hodge back to Iowa for the last bit of the season.
