The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Javier Assad has been optioned to Iowa.
Wicks, 25, is 3-4 with one save, a 3.47 ERA (23 ER/59.2 IP) and 64 strikeouts, compared to just 19 walks, in 16 games, including 13 starts, with the I-Cubs this season. His 2.87 walks per 9.0 innings and 3.37 strikeouts per walk both rank second among Iowa pitchers (min. 5 G). In his previous two stints with the Cubs, Wicks has gone 0-1 with a 9.
