Cubs players honor Ryne Sandberg: 'The blueprint for what it means to be an amazing Cub'

MILWAUKEE – One April, when Ian Happ was having an especially rough month at the plate, Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg sought him out in the batting cages before a game.

Sandberg pulled Happ aside and rattled off his own career numbers in April – he hit a paltry .230 in March and April, with just a .660 OPS – but noted that he always got out of that funk.

“Just cool to have somebody who’s played forever and been through moments to take the time,” Happ said, “and to be paying that much attention, and to be watching that closely, and to know how much weight his words carry.
