TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Chicago Cubs optioned pitcher Spencer Patton to Triple-A Iowa, reducing their spring roster to 35 players.
In terms of results Patton, 28, was arguably the Cubs' best hurler this spring.
“Early in camp when I was throwing bullpens and stuff, [pitching coach] Chris Bosio worked with me on getting over my front foot more which has allowed me to keep the ball down,” Patton said on Monday morning. “That’s been huge for me.”
The adjustment carried over to games where Patton gave up just two hits and a walk in eight Cactus League innings.
