Back when Javier Baez was a top prospect, everyone talked about his potential at the plate. There was his prodigious power, elite bat speed and trademark bat waggle, all reminiscent of the great Gary Sheffield.
But he never had the same patience as Sheffield. Baez was too aggressive at the plate and many wondered if his style at the plate would work in the big leagues. Reports on his defense at shortstop suggested that he would not be able to stick at that position. Once again, too aggressive.
But watching him play for the Cubs now, no one is talking about his bat or his position.
