Iowa wasted a magnificent start by Kenta Maeda, who allowed no runs and just one hit over seven innings. He had a no-hitter going through six innings. Maeda walked three and struck out three.
Porter Hodge came on to pitch the bottom of the eighth and took the loss. He allowed two baserunners—a walk and a single—and retired two batters, one by strikeout, before exiting for Riley Martin. Martin gave up an RBI single to the first batter he faced for the only run of the game.
