Two days after missing the Cubs’ game in Cincinnati to attend Charlie Kirk’s memorial in Glendale, Ariz., rookie third baseman Matt Shaw said he’s “not concerned at all” about any potential blowback — for the friendship he shared with the controversial public figure, or for leaving his team during a critical closing stretch of the regular season.
“My connection with Charlie was through our [Christian] faith,” Shaw said Tuesday before a series opener against the Mets at Wrigley Field. “And that’s something that drives me every day, the reason why I’m able to do what I do every day, and that’s something I’m extremely thankful for.
