NEW YORK — The Cubs had already come back to tie the game twice when Francisco Lindor homered to put the Mets up again. It was certainly possible that the Cubs could rally once more. But as the Mets kept rolling in the eighth inning Sunday, it became less and less likely.
“[The Mets] pitched well today,” manager Craig Counsell said after the Cubs’ 6-2 loss Sunday. “We got a couple of big hits. We pitched really well to get a tie game to the eighth inning.
