PHILADELPHIA – Stepping into the batter’s box in the sixth inning, Ian Happ was aware he hadn’t had much success against Phillies right-handler Taijuan Walker in his career. But he was expecting something inside.
And when he got it on the third pitch of the at-bat, it didn’t matter that the cutter was moving in on his hands. He stayed inside the pitch and drove it into the right-field stands for a two-run home run.
“He’s done a really good job of that cutter in, off [the plate] that he threw there, but the sinker kind of starts at you and comes back,” Happ said after the Cubs’ 8-4 win Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park.
