DENVER – The Cubs are finalizing a deal to sign veteran first baseman Carlos Santana, sources confirmed Sunday morning.
The Guardians released Santana, 39, this past week, giving him a chance to land with a playoff contender. Players within the organization by the end of the day on Aug. 31 are playoff eligible. Active rosters expand to 28 spots on Sept. 1.
