Cubs Finalize 30-Man Roster for Start of Season

The Cubs have announced their initial 30-man roster, the final procedural step toward starting the long-awaited “regular” season. As you are no doubt familiar by now, teams have a 60-man player pool split into primary and support rosters. The former is currently capped at 30, but that number will drop to 28 after two weeks and then 26 after two more.

There is also a three-man taxi squad that will accompany the main roster on road trips, so the Cubs will actually have 33-players available when they travel to Cincinnati on Monday.

Outside of a surprise or two, this is pretty much what we had all expected.
