The Cubs have the most potent offense in the sport, but they can’t always slug their way to wins. There will be days like Monday, when they hosted the Rockies on a chilly afternoon with the wind blowing in at Wrigley Field.
And though this wasn’t another of the artful or overpowering offensive performances that have typically carried them, the Cubs scrapped for a 3-1 victory at the one-third mark of the season and put them on track for their best record since their 2016 championship team.
