CINCINNATI – Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya described the throw to second base as “normal.” The pitch was high and inside, with Reds batter Austin Hays spinning out of the way. But Amaya still had room to maneuver into position and get rid of the ball quickly – although not quite quickly enough to nab speedy Elly De La Cruz as he stole second base.

In the Cubs’ 6-4 loss to the Reds on Saturday, the fifth inning had already started to unravel.
