CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs activated center fielder Cody Bellinger from the injured list Tuesday, and he made an immediate impact, hitting a solo home run among his three hits in a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

The team also placed pitcher Daniel Palencia on the IL.

Bellinger, 28, has been out with a rib injury since running into the wall at Wrigley Field on April 23. He served as the designated hitter Tuesday and will do so again Wednesday against the Padres before the team decides if he is ready to play the outfield again.
