MILWAUKEE — Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer is a lame duck no longer.
He and the Cubs have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, according to a team source. Hoyer was in the fifth and final year of his contract, after taking over the top position in baseball operations as his predecessor Theo Epstein stepped down following the 2020 season.
Hoyer, formerly Epstein’s right-hand man, had the job of tearing down the remaining core of the 2016 championship team they built together. The Cubs have missed the playoffs the last four years but are on track to end that drought this season.
