Cub Tracks contemplates hibernation

Remember when the Cubs got Bobby Bonds (June 4, 1981)? Yeah, this feels like teams from that storied period, when the year they were .500 (1977, the year of the Kong) was the high-water mark. Maybe Jed Hoyer becomes the new Dallas Green, but I doubt it. They’re already erecting obstacles.

Previously, the or-gan-i-zation (cameo appearance by Bob Pulford) spent money unwisely. From all appearances, they’ll continue to do that, only with fewer zeroes on the paychecks. I don’t know how much of this bear market inefficiency I can bear.

I hope you had a solid solstice, a cool Yule, a mellow midwinter’s day.
