Coronavirus fears delay start of Japanese baseball season, while MLB plans to start season on time

One major baseball league has delayed the start of its 2020 season amid fears over the spread of the coronavirus.

Nippon Professional Baseball, the highest level of pro ball in Japan, delayed the opening of its campaign Monday, per a report from Jim Allen.

Opening Day was scheduled for March 20, just six days before the 2020 Major League Baseball season is slated to begin.

"We can’t play games in the current situation, where for every one person in a large crowd, two to three more will likely become infected," commissioner Atsushi Saito said.
