Control still an issue, but Yu Darvish shows signs of improvement in first win since 2018

Yu Darvish still has room for improvement, but his start Monday night against the Marlins showed that he’s trending in the right direction.

Counting Monday, Darvish has pitched deeper into the game than each of his previous starts this season. While he only beat his previous season-high—5 1/3 innings on April 10—by one out, he did so in a more successful manner.

Darvish pitched 5 2/3 innings Monday night, allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits. The right-hander struck out eight batters compared to four walks, picking up his first win in nearly 11 months (May 20, 2018).
