The Cubs and Cardinals renewed their rivalry at a hot and steamy Busch Stadium Friday night. Chicago’s offense struggled to produce yet again and the home team won rather easily.
Matthew Boyd found himself in a major jam in the bottom of the 2nd, giving up an RBI infield single to Jordan Walker. He then used a double play to escape a bases-loaded, nobody-out situation and limit the damage. Unfortunately, the North Siders could not figure out young starter Michael McGreevy and failed to dent the scoreboard.
St. Louis took advantage of a misplayed bunt by Michael Bush to score twice in the 5th on a sacrifice fly by Iván Herrera and a run-scoring single by Willson Contreras.
