The Cubs and Giants got their series underway on a cool Tuesday night at Oracle Park. Chicago had another disappointing performance from the hitters as they dropped the opener by the bay.
San Francisco struck first when Wilmer Flores hit a solo homer off Matthew Boyd in the bottom of the 2nd. The North Siders answered back with an RBI single by Matt Shaw against the veteran Justin Verlander to the game in the 4th.
Carson Kelly gave the Cubs a lead with a run-scoring single in the top of the 5th inning to make it 2-1.
