Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (4/4/25): Cubs 3, Padres 1 – Imanaga Shines in Home Opener

The Cubs played their first home game of the season at a chilly and overcast Wrigley Field against the Padres Friday afternoon. Luckily for Chicago, Shu014dta Imanaga was razor-sharp and shut down a talented San Diego lineup to hand them their first defeat of 2025.

The North Siders loaded the bases against San Diego starter Randy Vásquez in the bottom of the 1st inning. Nico Hoerner coaxed a walk to force in the first run of the contest to make it 1-0 for the home team. Imanaga made his only mistake in the 3rd inning when catcher Martín Maldonado hit a solo home run that just barely reached the basket in left to even the score.
