Starter Matt Swarmer was knocked around for eight runs on seven hits over three innings. He walked four and struck out two.

On the bright side, Dillon Maples got to bat for the first time as a professional and he singled, so his career batting average is 1.000. More importantly, he faced four batters, retired all four and struck out three.

Second baseman Robel Garcia hit a solo home run in the second inning. It was his 15th home run of the year and ninth for Iowa.
