The Cubs picked up another win last night behind a stellar debut from Jordan Wicks and enough offense to overcome the bullpen’s struggles. Now they’ve got a chance to take the series in Pittsburgh and build a little more momentum heading into three games against the Brewers.
Javier Assad hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in a game since being inserted into the rotation in place of Marcus Stroman, and he’s pitched at least 5.1 innings in each of his last three starts. He’s not overpowering by any stretch, but he stays calm and doesn’t beat himself out there on the mound.
