The Cubs had time before the start of their opening-round playoff series to make a decision on Cade Horton.
But they apparently learned what they needed to after the rookie righty threw on the outfield grass Saturday at Wrigley Field.
The team put Horton on the 15-day injured list before Saturday’s game with a rib fracture. The placement is retroactive to Thursday, meaning Horton will be unavailable for the entirety of the Cubs’ best-of-three series with the Padres next week. The earliest he’d be able to pitch in a postseason game would be a potential fifth game of the NLDS on Saturday, Oct.
