Angels to hire former Cubs skipper Joe Maddon as next manager

Joe Maddon is a baseball lifer who spent the vast majority of his career in the Los Angeles Angels organization before managing in Tampa Bay and Chicago.

Now, he’s returning to his roots.

Maddon and the Angels agreed to a three-year deal to make him the club’s manager Wednesday, according to two people with knowledge of the situation, less than one month after he and the Cubs parted ways at the end of the regular season. The people requested anonymity because the deal has not been officially announced.

In 2016, the 65-year-old led the Cubs to their first World Series title in 108 years.
