Aaron Civale's Cubs debut key to securing walk-off win against Braves

Right-hander Aaron Civale – like veteran first baseman Carlos Santana, who the Cubs signed before the postseason eligibility deadline Monday – was a player the Cubs discussed at this year’s trade deadline, according to president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer.

“I think we’re in good position,” Hoyer said Monday of the Cubs’ pitching. “But I also feel like adding innings is always valuable when you know you’re getting into this position where guys have a tendency to get tired, and you may want to give guys a little bit of rest.
