The Chicago Cubs will need to set their roster for the National League Wild Card series on Tuesday morning, and there is a reminder that the team isn't subject to the same roster rules that they must follow during the regular season. After having expanded rosters in September, the roster size is back down to 26, but the team doesn't have to carry the same number of pitchers and position players.
Given the shortened three-game series in the Wild Card round, it often leads to a team carrying more position players than pitchers. In other words, it wouldn't be out of the question for the Cubs to have 14 position players on their roster for the series against the Padres, and only 12 pitchers.
