LOS ANGELES — Quick, someone fly in Matt Szczur to Chicago with a suitcase full of baseball bats and tights.
Last year, Szczur’s bat and undergarments helped break the bad offensive mojo going on with Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell in Game 4 of the NLCS with the Dodgers. It worked and the Cubs cruised to the World Series.
The Cubs sure could use an offensive boost again. Szczur might want to deliver a dozen bats this time, possibly corked. Because the Cubs can’t hit anything right now and they’re in dire straits down 2-0 in the National League Championship Series.
