‘South Side,’ Comedy Central’s made-in-Chicago sitcom, gets a premiere date: July 24

“South Side,” the Comedy Central series shot in Chicago last summer, will hit the air on July 24, the cable channel announced Thursday.

Bashir Salahuddin, who grew up in the South Shore and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods, created the slice-of-life show with his writing partner Diallo Riddle. Salahuddin plays Officer Goodnight, a policeman, and Riddle co-stars. The central characters are two would-be entrepreneurs who recently graduated from community college and work at an Englewood rent-to-own store.

Salahuddin’s brother, Sultan, and wife, Chandra Russell, also are in the cast, and the Season One guest stars will include comedians “Lil Rel” Howery and Nathaniel “Earthquake” Stroman, Wilco musician Jeff Tweedy, actors LisaRaye McCoy and Kel Mitchell and Chicago’s 104.
