First rounder Bobby Portis signs with Bulls

Bobby Portis signed his contract with the Bulls on Tuesday, the team announced. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the rookie scale for the No. 22 pick is $1.16 million in Year 1 and $1.21 million in Year 2. Portis can sign for as much as 120 percent or as little as 80 percent of that scale.

Portis was named the SEC Player of the Year as a sophomore, averaging 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds in 29.9 minutes per game. He'll join a crowded frontcourt in Chicago but gives additional depth to an injury-prone group and is a perfect fit for head coach Fred Hoiberg's offense.
