Pat O’Donnell and Benny Cunningham went off to the side during Sunday’s walkthrough to practice their throw-and-catch. Not only for their own comfort with the fake punt, Cunningham said Monday night, but for their teammates to see so they’d feel good about the gimmick.
“Just trying to build confidence in each other and everyone around us who watched us miss a couple during the week,” Cunningham said about the extra reps. “It felt good to see that work out.”
For the first time in his entire football career, O’Donnell attempted a pass. On fourth-and-6 from Minnesota’s 38-yard line in the third quarter, O’Donnell took the long snap from Andrew DePaola and floated the pass to Cunningham over the middle.
