Source: Ulf Samuelsson leaving Hurricanes to join Blackhawks staff

Ulf Samuelsson has notified the Carolina Hurricanes he will be leaving the organization to join the Blackhawks coaching staff, according to a source on Saturday.

Samuelsson, 53, was the head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate, last season. The Checkers went 39-29-8 and lost in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs. Samuelsson informed the Hurricanes of his decision on Friday, the source said.

Samuelsson has a long professional coaching resume. He spent five years as an assistant coach with the Arizona Coyotes, three years as an assistant with the New York Rangers, two years as the head coach of MODO in the SHL and one year as an assistant coach of the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL.
