Report: Gov. Pritzker recommending no sports in Illinois until May 1

It could be a while before we seeing a professional sporting event in Chicago.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker is recommending the owners of Chicago's professional teams shutdown all statewide sporting events until May 1. This, according to The Athletic's Scott Powers.

Powers adds Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Cook County board president Tony Preckwinkle will hold a 5 p.m. press conference on Thursday.

The NBA and NHL suspended play indefinitely in wake of the coronavirus. MLS suspended action for 30 days, while MLB is pushing back Opening Day until at least April 9.
