As of right now, there’s no real end date on the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on the NHL. Things have gone from just wanting the NHL season to resume, to we might not have a finish to the 2019-20 season.
There have been rumors about the NHL draft being done completely virtual. I assume that would only be if hockey doesn’t return until the fall. If they bring back the season around early May, there wouldn’t be a need for this. If they cancel the entire season, we probably will see this format take place in June.
