Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman turned back the clock before his team’s first-round pick was announced Friday at the NHL draft inside the United Center in Chicago. Bowman invited Patrick Kane (No. 1 overall pick in 2007) and captain Jonathan Toews (No. 3 in 2006) on stage to announce the team’s No. 29 overall pick in Finnish defenseman Henri Jokiharju.
The Hawks selecting the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks blueliner wasn’t the biggest news of the day as Bowman traded star winger Artemi Panarin to Columbus to re-acquire Brandon Saad. Bowman also sent defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson to Arizona.
