Former Blackhawks forward and Rockford IceHogs captain Kris Versteeg scored a power-play goal and an assist, and defenseman prospect Ian Mitchell also had a power-play goal in Canada’s 4-0 victory against HC Oceláu0159i Tu0159inec to win the Spengler Cup on Tuesday at Vaillant Arena in Davos, Switzerland.
Versteeg recorded a secondary assist on Dustin Jeffrey’s power-play goal at 9:02 of the second period. Mitchell then scored with a top-shelf wrist shot at 11:40, and Versteeg added a goal on a five-on-three advantage at 13:09. Jeffrey knocked in his own rebound on a breakaway, and Zach Fucale made 26 saves for back-to-back shutouts.
