Blackhawks will take patient approach with Maxim Shalunov

The Chicago Blackhawks expect forward Maxim Shalunov to play in the NHL eventually, but they’re not putting a timetable on him signing, according to a source.

The Blackhawks drafted Shalunov in the fourth round in 2011 and have retained his rights while he’s played in the KHL the past three seasons. Shualnov has 19 goals and 17 assists in 46 games for Sibir in the KHL this season.

“At some point he’ll want to come back, but it has to be right,” the source said. “He has to be ready. He’s our player; there’s time.
