Blackhawks will continue to monitor Maxim Shalunov in KHL

The Maxim Shalunov watch won’t be so intense for the Blackhawks this season.

Shalunov signed a three-year deal with the KHL’s CSKA Moscow in April, ensuring his future with the Blackhawks won’t be any time soon. He certainly won’t be signing with the Blackhawks this season.

But the thing about contracts in the KHL is they aren’t always set in stone. As one Blackhawks source recently said, it’s possible Shalunov could sign with the Blackhawks prior to the three-year timeframe set by his latest contract.

“He’s under contract, but at the same time, wait and see,” the source said.
