Blackhawks trade Michal Kempny to Capitals

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded defenseman Michal Kempny to the Washington Capitals. Details on the deal beyond that are unclear at this point but Kempny told The Athletic’s Scott Powers that he’s headed to Washington.

Kempny has bounced around the Blackhawks’ lineup the past two years after signing with the team out of the KHL. He’s shown strong physical tools that make it obvious why Chicago took a flier on him, but he was unable to carve out a spot in the lineup despite solid performance.

The 27-year-old leaves Chicago with three goals, 12 assists, and a plus-4.
